Miedecke joins Middleton’s Touring Car Masters campaign

Four-time Australian Truck Racing Champion and Touring Car Masters driver, Bob Middleton has teamed up with vastly experienced racer, Andrew Miedecke who will take over the wheel of the #95 WesTrac Cat Camaro for the 2010 season.

After joining the Touring Car Masters just last year, Middleton is already expanding his Whiteline Racing team and is poised to become a powerhouse outfit in the series with the addition of Miedecke.

Rated among the best drivers this country has produced, Miedecke began his professional racing career in the 1974 Australian Formula Ford Championship in which he impressively finished second on debut.

Going from strength to strength, Miedecke went on to contest the Australian F2 Championship, the British F3 championship, Australian Formula Atlantic and New Zealand Touring Car series to name but a few.

Miedecke then returned to take his place in this country’s premier racing category with a full-time drive in the Australian Touring Car Championship from 1987 to 1990 in which he was a regular top 10 competitor.

Miedecke continued to be a highly sought after co-driver for the endurance events right through into the V8 Supercar era, racking up 15 Bathurst 1000 starts and finishing inside the top 10 placings eight times including a podium with Mark Larkham in 1997.

A former Targa Tasmania winner, Miedecke joined forces with Middleton’s Whiteline Racing in 2000 to race in the Australian NASCAR Series. Their relationship proved highly successful with Miedecke netting the 2001 and 2002 Australian NASCAR Championships.

Former V8 Supercar racer, Miedecke enjoyed a brief run in Middleton’s Camaro at Eastern Creek prior to last year’s Muscle Car Masters event and was immediately impressed with the car.

Reuniting with Middleton was irresistible, and over time the pair hopes to develop the team into a front running squad with their combined experience.

Joining the Touring Car Masters, Miedecke is also looking forward to resuming his on-track rivalry with long-time sparring partners Jim Richards and John Bowe, and knows the tough competition he will face.

Miedecke is scheduled for his first full blown test in the Camaro at Mallala Raceway (SA) on 5 February before making his Touring Car Masters debut in round one.

Middleton aims to campaign a new car and is currently working to have a 1970-model Chevrolet Camaro ready for round one at his home event in Adelaide (SA), Clipsal 500 on 11-14 March.

BOB MIDDLETON:
“The whole team is very excited to be working with Andrew again.

“White Line Racing has had a good relationship with Andrew in the past – he’s sort of like part of the family and we’re really looking forward to have him racing the WesTrac Camaro.

“Since the end of the season we’ve already upgraded a lot on the car, the engine and suspension, and we think it’s already better for Andrew’s upcoming test.

“The Touring Car Masters is growing, great people involved, great racing and it’s a fantastic series to be involved with.

“We’ve had a learning year to sort the car, so this year we hope to go from strength to strength with Andrew.”

ANDREW MIEDECKE:
“I raced with Bob and his team back in 2000 to 2002 in the NASCAR series and had the most enjoyable years of my racing career. We won two championships in that time and had a lot of fun.

“I’ve raced against John Bowe and Jim Richards nearly all my racing life. We’re good mates and I’m especially looking forward having some good battles with them again.

“It’s important to note that I’m under no illusions about how tough it will be. I don’t expect to be on the pace straight away, but once we get through a few races, who knows. We’ll certainly be giving it our best shot.”
